Some cars don’t disappear, they wait.

This Mercedes-Benz R129 spent nearly five years in a true sleeping-beauty state, hidden away and untouched. Reviving it was less about routine restoration and more about a careful, barn-find-style resurrection.

The objective was never excess, but restraint: bringing the technology back up to standard, respecting the original substance, and preserving the character that time had given the car. No over-restoration, no shortcuts. Just an honest return to the road.

This project was only possible with the right people involved. Richard from MB Classic took care of the technical side, while Kevin Klamer of Klamer + Banko contributed his expertise as workshop owner and detailing specialist. Together, the R129 made its way from a dark, forgotten space back into daylight and back onto the road, where it belongs.

What made this project especially rewarding: the car was handed over directly to its new owner, ready to be driven and enjoyed again.

A special thank you goes to Sonax and the team around Steffen Schwab for supporting the collaboration and sharing our passion for authentic automotive stories. The complete journey was documented in a three-part Back to Life video series, released across digital channels and designed to showcase real workshops, real processes and real people.
